About The Event

Chicago, IL [August 10, 2019] - Brother El’s Sandbox Symphony IV is a beach art exhibition of live PA electronic music, visual arts, movement, food and nature. Giving praise to the Oakland/North Kenwood neighborhood’s arts and culture by honoring the legacy of sculpture and art activist Milton Mizenburg with a memorial popup gallery. This free art exhibit at Oakwood Beach features the backdrop of the beautiful skyline, yoga, live music, live interactive art, a mini pop-up farmers market, a mobile toy creation cart, sand castles and local short films.

Milton Mizenberg was a sculptor & art activist who cleared and cleaned lots near his Oakland home to create what became the Oakland Museum of Contemporary Art, which features an evocative range of his outdoor sculptures. In doing so, he encouraged community members to take pride in the neighborhood and think creatively. His inspiration extends into the present beyond his passing in 2016. Mizenberg taught art classes and mentored a number of Chicago artists who were drawn to his work nestled into this intimate South Side landscape.

Brother El was one of the young people he mentored. Brother El, Sandbox Symphony’s creator, is an arts innovator on the Chicago hip hop and electronic music scenes. His performance style is spontaneous composition that provides sound frequencies that inspire healing. He will play a fully-improvised set using analog synthesizers, drum machines and sequencers. El is also an educator, focusing on arts education programs in Chicago. He has been featured by Fox 32 News, CHIRP Radio, and BBoy Tech Report.

This event provides a family friendly environment showcasing the art and culture of the Oakland/North Kenwood neighborhood and its artists: Brother El of The Beat Bank; Lloyd King, Ludbar and Rahul Shirma of Funkadesi; Cos of Push Beats; Shannon Harris of Audio Pharmacology; Aquil Charlton The Beat Bank; more to be announced.

Please join us on August 10, 2019 at Oakwood beach at 2:00pm for this local art memorial exhibition extravaganza which celebrates the vibrant creativity and people of the Kenwood/Oakland neighborhood, and the story of Milton Mizenberg. This event will honor and uplift with high-level inspiration, positivity, and vibrations.
